The Human Barcode: Complete Undergraduate Biology Course
The Human Barcode is an engaging lecture course on the different aspects of human biology that can be used for personal identification, namely DNA and fingerprint analysis.
I designed this course as an undergraduate course for non-biology majors and it was a huge success, although it can also be used as an introductory-level course for bio majors.
The learning goals for students are to:
1) Understand the basic principles of biology, DNA analysis, and physiology used for personal identification
2) Think critically and be able to read popular literature on scientific topics
This package contains:
Course syllabus
8 complete PowerPoint lectures
3 complete course exams
1 supplemental reading on the topic of fingerprint analysis
The following topics are covered in the PPT lectures:
Course Introduction and Principles of Biology
Biochemistry and DNA Structure
DNA Replication and Function
DNA Mutations and Polymorphisms
DNA Analysis
The Biology of Skin
Dermatoglyphics (Fingerprint Analysis)
A complete undergraduate biology course, including syllabus, PPT lectures, and 3 exams
